KNF (Polish Financial Supervision Authority): meaning in a Polish mortgage

In Polish: KNF (Komisja Nadzoru Finansowego)
This is the word you will see in bank documents.

Definition

KNF (Komisja Nadzoru Finansowego, the Polish Financial Supervision Authority) is the state body that supervises the financial market in Poland, including banks, insurers, and mortgage credit intermediaries and their agents. It issues recommendations for banks, including Recommendation S on mortgages. It also keeps the public register of credit intermediaries.

What it means for you

KNF rules decide how much you can borrow: the interest rate buffer, the DSTI and LTV limits and the maximum loan term come from Recommendation S. In the KNF register you can check whether a mortgage expert may legally handle your case. The KNF does not settle disputes with banks, though; for that there is a complaint, the Financial Ombudsman and the court.
