In Polish: Okres kredytowania
This is the word you will see in bank documents.
Definition
The loan term (okres kredytowania) is the period over which you repay the loan under the agreement, counted in months or years. Recommendation S names up to 25 years as recommended and 35 years as the maximum. Banks usually offer 30 years, some of them 35.
What it means for you
A longer term means a lower instalment and slightly higher creditworthiness, but much more interest in total. With long terms the difference in the instalment is small, because the instalment approaches the interest on the balance alone. You can shorten the term later with overpayments, but extend it only with the bank's consent.

Frequently asked questions
How many years can a mortgage in Poland last?
At most 35 years under Recommendation S, but some banks stop at 30. An age limit at the end of repayment also shortens the term.
Is a 35-year mortgage worth it?
Only if you are slightly short of creditworthiness or want a lower compulsory instalment and will overpay. Without overpayments you pay noticeably more interest.
Can the loan term be extended during repayment?
Yes, by an annex, but it is the bank's decision and it usually reassesses creditworthiness and age. Another route is refinancing at a different bank.
