In Polish: Saldo kredytu
This is the word you will see in bank documents.
Definition
The loan balance (saldo kredytu) is the amount of capital still to be repaid on a given day. The bank charges interest for the next period on the balance. For overpayment, refinancing and selling the flat, it is the balance that counts, not the original loan amount.
What it means for you
The balance tells you how much you must pay to close the loan, e.g. from the sale price of the flat. With equal instalments it falls slowly, so after 10 years you may still owe over 80% of the amount. When you repay in full, interest accrued up to the payment date is added to the balance.
