In Polish: Ubezpieczenie nieruchomości
This is the word you will see in bank documents.
Definition
Property insurance for a mortgage is a policy against fire and other random events, such as flooding, explosion or storm, covering the structure of the flat or house. In practice every bank requires it before the payout and for the whole repayment period. You assign the rights under the policy to the bank (cesja).
What it means for you
This is the only insurance you must have with every Polish mortgage. For a flat it usually costs a few hundred złoty a year, more for a house, and must be renewed every year. If the bank does not receive a new policy with an assignment, the agreement usually allows it to raise the margin or insure the property at your cost.
