In Polish: Ustawa o kredycie hipotecznym
This is the word you will see in bank documents.
Definition
The Mortgage Credit Act (ustawa o kredycie hipotecznym) is the Polish Act of 23 March 2017 on mortgage credit and the supervision of mortgage credit intermediaries and agents, in force since 22 July 2017. It implements EU Directive 2014/17/EU and governs agreements for loans secured by a mortgage or intended to buy a flat or house. It sets out the duties of banks, brokers and agents and the consumer's rights before signing and during repayment.
What it means for you
The Act gives you specific deadlines and rights you can use without a lawyer: time to compare offers, withdrawal from the agreement, cheaper early repayment and protection against sudden termination. It also requires brokers and agents to be entered in the KNF register. If a bank does not comply, you can file a complaint and then turn to the Financial Ombudsman (Rzecznik Finansowy).
